Wе muѕt nеvеr feel unсоnfidеnt. Sometimes it’ѕ a bit diffiсult tо revive thе соnfidеnсе when wе need it. Actually, thеrе аrе ѕimрlе еxеrсiѕеѕ thаt саn bе рrасtiсеd tо gеt уоur соnfidеnсе bасk оn trасk аѕ ѕооn аѕ роѕѕiblе whеn nееdеd. Here аrе seven wауѕ оn hоw tо bе confident:

Thе firѕt wау – Wаtсh уоur роѕturе – Thiѕ mау ѕоund nоt hаvе a relationship with thе соnfidеnсе that wе аrе tаlking about, but actually the wау уоu ѕit or stand will send сеrtаin mеѕѕаgеѕ tо реорlе аrоund уоu. If that mеѕѕаgе shows соnfidеnсе, уоu will gеt a роѕitivе response frоm others and оf соurѕе this will inсrеаѕе thе соnfidеnсе of your оwn. So bеgin to watch your ѕit аnd stand to ѕhоw thаt уоu hаvе confidence.

Thе ѕесоnd wау – Associate with реорlе that hаvе соnfidеnсе and positive thinking – Neighborhood hаѕ huge imрасt on ѕоmеоnе. If уоu соntinuе tо аѕѕосiаtе with people who hаvе lоw соnfidеnсе, соmрlаinеrѕ аnd реѕѕimiѕtѕ, no mаttеr how grеаt confident you hаvе, ѕlоwlу but ѕurеlу it iѕ gоing tо fаdе and bе dragged tо follow уоur neighborhood. Conversely, if you’re ѕurrоundеd by реорlе with full оf hаррinеѕѕ and соnfidеnt, thеn it will also create a роѕitivе atmosphere that bringѕ bеnеfitѕ fоr yourself.

Thе third wау – Rеmеmbеr whеn уоu fееl соnfidеnt – Cоnfidеnсе iѕ a fееling, аnd if уоu еvеr feel it once, it’ѕ not imроѕѕiblе tо fееl it аgаin. Rеmеmbеring thе timе whеn уоu fеlt соnfidеnt аnd in соntrоl will mаkе you experience that fееling аnd hеlр рut a frаmеwоrk of confidence in mind.

Thе fourth way – Exеrсiѕе – Whеnеvеr уоu wаnt to feel the confidence, thе key iѕ tо exercise аѕ оftеn as роѕѕiblе. Yоu саn еvеn bring in уоur ѕlеер. With a trained аbilitу, уоu will not trоublе diѕрlауing confidence whenever needed.

Thе fifth way – Knоw уоurѕеlf – Think аll аbоut what you like оn уоurѕеlf and all the things that уоu knоw you саn dо wеll. If уоu have trоublе dоing thiѕ, remember the compliments уоu gеt frоm thе реорlе – Whаt they ѕау – уоu do wеll? It iѕ a good idеа tо writе all оf this, until you саn ѕее it аgаin to raise the ѕеlf-соnfidеnсе whеnеvеr уоu need inѕрirаtiоn.

Thе ѕixth wау – Dоn’t be tоо hаrd on yourself – Dо nоt criticize уоurѕеlf; уоu hаvе to be thе bеѕt friеnd fоr yourself. Hоwеvеr, whеn a friend iѕ going through hаrd ѕituаtiоn, you will nоt wаnt tо be invоlvеd in thе problem thus your оwn еmоtiоnаl drain уоu, right? Of course, уоu dо not want it. Positive соnvеrѕаtiоn саn сhаngе to bе thе bеѕt wеароn tо bооѕt ѕеlf-соnfidеnсе, ѕо mаkе sure thаt уоu ѕеt this hаbit, do nоt lеt thе problems of others mаkе уоu so рооrlу.

Thе ѕеvеnth way – Do nоt bе afraid tо tаkе a riѕk – If уоu аrе a risk tаkеr, you’ll find thаt this action соuld produce ѕеlf-соnfidеnсе. In addition, thiѕ action аlѕо wоrkѕ wеll to reduce уоur fear оn thingѕ thаt уоu dо nоt know, plus it саn grеаtlу boost соnfidеnсе.

Christmas memories – broken glass :-(

As its Christmas when I write this, I remember a few Christmas’s ago, we had family round and were cooking turkey and everyone was behaving themselves. All was calm, people were drinking, watching television and enjoying each others company. It was a lovely scene and we even had snow outside. Which was to become our issues.

While in the kitchen, looking out the window, admiring the lovely snow scene, we heard a crash and saw a branch from the old tree fall down with the weight of the snow and smash through our kitchen ceiling, which is made of beautiful glass windows for light. Having that much glass is great for light and an airy feeling but now we had a glazing emergency.

The branch had broken 2 panes of glass and were quite high up as we have high ceilings. There was broken glass all over the floor and our first job was to calm everyone down and then deal with the emergency. While we were thinking what to do next, the beautiful snow scene began coming into the kitchen through the broken windows. So we had to act quickly.

My good friend John, got the ladder and started to plug the gaps in the windows to stop the weather coming in as a temporary measure, which would help but was not going to hold it for too long. I thought who we had as our local glazier and would they come out on Christmas day and how much would it cost and will the house insurance cover it….

Anyway, it had to be fixed so I googled for local emergency glazier and found 3, I called the first one, who has a nice web site and they said they wee 24/7 glaziers, so this was the test, were they really. And bingo! they answered and came out in 40 minutes on Christmas Day, which was fantastic. I am so impressed to find a glazier on Christmas day, it was wonderful and a big relief.

The glaziers arrived and just took over, cleaned up with us and started fixing the issue, he did not have the right glass for our window, as it was a special kind and size, so he boarded it up in a very clever way to not damage the window frame. A great emergency arrival from the glaziers.

We fed him a few mince pies to help him through the day.

He cleared up and said he would be back on boxing day, which he was and fitted the new panes and did not charge me the earth.

What a great service from a lovely local glazing company, who we have used again for some other windows.

So that was my Christmas memory, which could have gone badly wrong, but kid of made our Christmas a bit more interesting, thanks to our local glazier and his commitment to help.

Happy Christmas everyone…

Kids Oral Hygiene

It is crucial you get your kids to the dentist as soon as possible, so both they and you know what they have to do in today’s world of keeping kids teeth and gums healthy. Its all about forming the right habits and setting the kids up to succeed as early as possible.

This means getting your baby’s teeth cared for as milk teeth need to be healthy so the next set, the real teeth have a better chance of being strong and healthy.

We all know the basics, clean your teeth twice a day, in the morning and before bed, go to the dentist regularly and eat sensibly, not too much sugary food.

 Up to 2 years

Babies are born with what is known as tooth buds and their gums cover these buds and therefore their mouths need extra special care.  They should be cleaned carefully twice a day with a soft cloth.

The tooth will come through and then we need to brush the tooth with water and a very soft brush and ask your dentist when you should use a toothpaste.

Hygiene this early on is so key to protect the teeth, so use only those toothbrushes that are specifically designed for babies. And remarkably when they are 1 take them to the dentist. This will be good for the baby to understand the dental process and help with the fear factor.

2 years and above

At 2, toothpaste should be used and it should contain fluoride, which will assist in fighting off bacteria. Only use a small amount and ensure it is all washed out after you finish. And the baby should be assisted with a soft cloth to clean out the fluoride.

Wait until they become at least 3 before they start using a toothbrush alone. And the correct toothbrush is key here as well.

No thumb sucking or dummies before 3, or it will be an issue with the teeth and mouth. Too much thumb sucking will lead to complications. After 3 years they should go to the dentist twice a year as this will help spot issues early.

6 years and above

This is when those lovely milk teeth begin to come out and the next set grow through, actually pushing the milk teeth out. It is a good idea to talk to your child as this can be scary, so the fairy that brings money for teeth needs to be introduced at this stage.

And not just teeth falling out but now you have to floss the new ones to keep them clean and protect them. Kids aren’t good at this game, so need help and support as this is very important. And you should keep doing this until they are at least 8. This is to make sure they are cleaning their teeth correctly and brushing for long enough as we all know they will get out of doing it if they can, which isn’t great at this stage. The teeth at the side need attention especially as plaque grows there and they can’t get their toothbrush there easily, so it won’t get done properly.

And at 6 the molars come through and therefore more fluoride is needed in the toothpaste to protect them.

8 years and above

OK, now the little munchkins should know what to do and when they are ten, they should be on their own and good to go with brushing and hygiene. We need to ensure they get and use the right toothbrush and toothpaste. They should know to clean their teeth twice a day but always remind them and eventually it will stick in their mind. And also when they eat sweets or sugary food or drink.

Our Teeth (guide to healthy teeth)

Our teeth

Why do we have teeth?

They do different jobs, when you are eating they cut up and chew the food you eat. When you talk and make noises, they assist in those noises.  And very importantly they shape your face, your facial shape is altered without teeth. Teeth are so important and need to be healthy teeth.

Our teeth come in four different types;

  1. Our Canine teeth are next to the Incisor teeth and tear the food while holding it.
  2. Incisor teeth cut up the food and are in front of your mouth and are sharp for that job.
  3. At the back we have the Molars, they are flat and double the size. Their job is to grind the food and chew, so the food we eat is broken down into smaller pieces that are easier to eat.
  4. We also have Pre-Molars, which are situated behind the Canine teeth, they are also flat and work to help crush your food.

What makes up my teeth?

Your teeth and connected in your mouth to your jaw, they are along the top and the bottom in a curved line. When you open your mouth you can see a white part or when you smile, this is commonly known as the crown.

The root of your teeth is under the skin of your mouth, which is called the gum and cannot be seen. The covering of your teeth is white and is called enamel. This enamel is very strong, actually it is the hardest thing we have as humans in our body, which is quite interesting, don’t you think? I guess it must do the hardest job. It basically protects your teeth, so has to be hard, otherwise your teeth would grind down.

When do I get my teeth?

When you are six months old, you will get your baby teeth, your first set of teeth would have appeared. You will get 20 teeth first of all and this is by the age of 2.5. And after all that trauma, they fall out and begin to come out when you are 6 and this is to provide room for your permanent teeth.

By the age of 13, you will have all your permanent teeth and that will be 28 teeth in all. Your wisdom teeth, which are 4 additional teeth can appear  around when you are 18 up until you are 25. This makes 32 teeth in all. Having wisdom teeth does not make you smart :-).

As these 32 teeth are all you get, it is very important to keep them healthy, teeth can begin to decay as soon as they arrive, so please look after them.

Which foods and drinks are good and bad for your teeth?

Sugar is the biggest issue and I do hope you realise that already, and sugar is in food and drink, sometimes in very large quantities, also not good for your weight. Each time you consume food or drink, your teeth can be attacked for an hour by acids. These acids are the mixture of sugar and bacteria and create dangerous acidic plaque.

Therefore do not have food or drink that contains sugar between meals, if you need to eat or drink, select food and drink that is sugar free, give your teeth a chance and some time off from plaque attack!!

Some foods that do not attack your teeth are;

  • fruit
  • vegetables that are raw
  • plain popcorn
  • plain yoghurt
  • cheese
  • rice cakes
  • breadsticks
  • plain bagels
  • nuts
  • cereal (unsweetened)

And if you are thirsty, drink water or milk, both plain not fancy. Fruit juices are ok if you add water and have them with your meal. And it is better to drink fruit juice with a straw, this only allows so much plaque attack on your lovely teeth.

What is plaque attack?

Everyday a plaque sticks to your teeth, it is a creamy layer of germs (sounds horrible doesn’t it?). These germs do not cause harm but do attack your teeth. The acid in the plaque attacks your teeth and can drill a hole into your tooth drilling through the enamel, which if you remember is the hardest thing in our bodies. So plaque is very strong itself. This will cause tooth ache. If you get a hole or tooth ache, you should see your dentist immediately, they will fill the hole with a filling.

removingPlaque

The best way to brush your teeth

To keep you gums and teeth healthy, they have to be cleaned with a tooth brush and this is to remove all the plaque. Teeth cleaning should be done twice a day as the plaque is still soft. It should become part of what you do everyday and you should be doing that by now.

  1. Twice a day is what is needed, in the morning and before you go to bed. You should use a fluoride toothpaste.
  2. Use a very small amount of fluoride on kids over 3.
  3. Don’t rinse your mouth, just spit, this retains the fluoride longer.
  4. Always select a soft to medium bristled brush and small to medium brush.
  5. Go to your dentist as they recommend.
